Description

THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD ON ZOOM.

Many newer writers report they’re great at coming up with intriguing story ideas, but they don’t always know how to break down those big ideas into workable parts. Award-winning author and writing instructor, Kris Neri, will show students how to focus their novels, moving step-by-step through the novel-planning process, exploring first, the Central Problem concept. They will then move onto a discussion of the value of writing a dust jacket description, which helps highlight the essential characters, conflicts, and drama of their narratives. From there, this workshop will explore the importance of backstory, the illusive hidden story, and finally, the 3-act structure for fiction.

Kris Neri’s latest novel, Hopscotch Life, was a recent New Mexico-Arizona Book Award winner. Kris also writes the Tracy Eaton mysteries, featuring the daughter of eccentric Hollywood stars, and the Samantha Brennan and Annabelle Haggerty magical series, which feature a questionable psychic who teams up with a contemporary goddess/FBI agent. Her novels have been honored by such prestigious awards as the: Agatha, Anthony, Macavity, Lefty, NM-AZ Book Award, and others. She teaches writing for the prestigious Writers’ Program of the UCLA Extension School and other organizations. Kris can be reached her through her website: https://krisneriauthor.wordpress.com.
