Description

In the Monday morning creative writing group, an atmosphere of respect, connection, and collaboration supports every writer. Writers write from a prompt or work from their own inspiration for 20 minutes.

Afterward, writers read their work aloud, and the facilitator guides a process for positive feedback. Natalie Goldberg’s book, Writing Down the Bones, provides food for thought and group discussion. As the group builds trust, constructive feedback contributes depth to each writer’s growth. All work produced in the writing workshop is treated as fiction to minimize the personal vulnerability of the writer. In addition, writers are encouraged to independently “read like a writer” in genres that broaden their learning.

This workshop meets 2 hours weekly for ten weeks in the fall, winter, and spring. Class size is limited.

Kathleen Molloy Nollet holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies and is interested in cultivating creativity and transformative adult learning. After a career as a musician, she worked as a teacher and principal before teaching educators at Lesley University Graduate School of Education, Brandeis University, Emmanuel College, and Northern Essex Community College. In addition to academic and professional writing on K-12 teacher professional development, Kathy has taught writing to children and adults and studied novel writing at Grub Street in Boston. She completed her debut novel, The Bob House, and is at work on a second.

This group will meet using Zoom.
