This Fall at Seven Bridge Writers Collaborative we are excited to begin offering a new set of programming for intermediate to advanced creative writing group participants. These courses are designed for those interested in a more challenging prompt-writing class. Our time will include skill development and weekly readings.
Our opening course, the Short Story Reading and Writing Group, employs the study of great writing to inspire us. In this six-week fall class we will examine enduring works of short fiction and use these stories as weekly prompts.
- Broaden appreciation of outstanding writing that is varied in time, place and perspective.
- Explore elements of what creates successful short stories that are interesting and satisfying.
- Employ findings and impressions as inspiration for our own fiction writing.
Students will be assigned a pair of weekly short stories to read for homework. Each Thursday we will discuss and analyze our reading, then spend 20 minutes of writing time using the short stories as prompts. Time will be given for each writer to read their work and receive constructive feedback from the group.
Class limit: 6.
Class time: 2.5 hours
Dates: September 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21, 28
