During our four weeks together, participants will learn what makes a successful children’s book by carefully reading and looking at examples of the genre. Writing prompts will be supplied, and the goal is to create 2, 4, 8 12 or even 16 pages of story. Throughout the four week session, Sally also will talk about editing, marketing, submitting and publishing.
Sally Cragin is an award-winning journalist (Boston Phoenix, Boston Globe) and author (Llewellyn Worldwide) whose writing has been translated and sold overseas. Her short plays have been produced in New York City (Love Creek Productions), Provincetown, and throughout Massachusetts. She has also worked as a script doctor for writer/performers who have presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and American Repertory Theatre. Recently, she served as an acting coach for the child actors appearing in the film, “Chimera” (2018) starring Henry Ian Cusick, and she published The Amazing Adventures of C. C. Sewercam with the City of Fitchburg, supported by a Fitchburg Cultural Council Grant. She is the founding director of Riverfront Family Theatre, which has won numerous foundation awards for supporting theatre classes for youth at Boys and Girls Club and area libraries. She is the director for Be PAWSitive Therapy Pets and Community Education, a local non-profit devoted to training therapy pet teams. Be PAWSitive’s first book, “The Therapy Cat Book” is forthcoming this fall from Swan Hope Press.
