Description

The Thursday morning prompt group is based on the philosophy that every person has a story to tell and could benefit from being part of a group of other writers. This group will spend the first twenty minutes writing from a suggested prompt or from their own inspiration, followed by an opportunity to share their work and receive constructive feedback from the group. Writers will be given equal time for discussion of their pieces. In this group, the facilitator will also write and read aloud.
At SBWC, we aim for a safe environment where writers at all levels of experience can experiment, learn, and develop their craft. To that end, we’ll strive to provide constructive responses in order to bring our writing to a deeper, more meaningful place. To preserve safety and anonymity, all work produced will be treated as fiction unless the writer wishes otherwise.

This workshop meets 2 hours weekly for ten weeks in the fall and ten in the winter and spring. Class size is limited.

Tiana Gorham, a Hudson-based writer and writing coach, has been publishing short stories and essays since 1988 when she won First Place in the Nissan America Prize for Fiction for her story “The Impersonator.” Her short fiction most often depicts life set in the Boston neighborhood of Roslindale.

Tiana earned both a BA and an MA from the University of Massachusetts Boston in English, Teaching Composition, and a Certificate in Creative Writing. She has taught writing at several Boston area colleges and writing programs and has worked as a corporate writer in the biotech field.

Currently, she facilitates a writing workshop at the Hudson Public Library, established in 2007, and a weekly memoir workshop at the Hudson Senior Center.  She believes that everyone has a story to tell and that most writers benefit from being part of a group of other writers for support and inspiration.

This class will meet in Lancaster.
